Delivering the new Aston Church Overbridge as part of the HS2 programme required strong engineering coordination and assurance within a complex infrastructure environment. Working across multidisciplinary interfaces and construction activities, the project demanded safe, compliant, and well-controlled delivery throughout every stage.
Sai Engineering supported the project in the roles of Contractor’s Responsible Engineer – Construction (CRE-C) and Contractor’s Engineering Manager (CEM), providing engineering leadership, technical assurance, and coordination to help manage risk, maintain compliance, and support successful project delivery across the wider HS2 programme.
The Aston Church Overbridge formed a key element of the wider HS2 infrastructure programme, requiring disciplined engineering management across multiple technical and construction interfaces. With numerous stakeholders, evolving design packages, and strict programme requirements, maintaining alignment across all phases of delivery was essential to achieving successful project outcomes.
Sai Engineering provided specialist support in the roles of Contractor’s Responsible Engineer – Construction (CRE-C) and Contractor’s Engineering Manager (CEM), contributing to the coordination and assurance of engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle. Our involvement included detailed reviews of both Permanent and Temporary Works designs, chairing Interdisciplinary Design Check Review (IDCR) meetings relating to the offline fabrication of the bridge structure and its subsequent transportation using a Self-Propelled Modular Transporter (SPMT), as well as participating in HAZID workshops to support collaborative risk identification and mitigation.
By driving communication between disciplines and maintaining focus on engineering governance, Sai Engineering helped support informed decision-making, technical consistency, and the effective management of complex project interfaces across the programme.
